Costume Design Class

Okay, so I'm really excited about this 30 for 30 thing even more than before. This is because my costume design class has now taken the 30 for 30 challenge as an assignment and we are all going to be doing it together! There are 9 students (including myself) and then the teacher and last week when I told my teacher about it she seemed interested. Today she asked me to share with the class what it was and now it's a class project!! :)
I think it will be really interesting to see how some of them handle not being able to go shopping. Also, some of them don't seem to have many clothes (at least not enough to come up with 30 items that will work together well) but I told them to just do the best they could and that was part of the challenge.
At the end of the 30 days we are going to have to write a reflection about the experience.
Yay! This will be so fun to have so many people around me doing this too!
Enjoy!

Some of my art work

I was in a 2 dimensional design class for this past semester and had some of my art work hung at the student showcase at the end of the semester.
Thought I would share some pictures of my work!
I did this one of my great grandmother, Mable Holmes. The picture on the left is a cyanotype of a picture of her from when she was in her 20s along with three pieces of her jewelry that I now have. The picture on the left was probably from the 1990s. Not exactly sure how old she was there but she lived until her mid 90s. I was lucky enough to get to live with her for a few years and get to know her. She was a sweet lady and I miss her.

This picture is of a staircase (turn your head to the left) I was standing at the top on the corner and took the picture when the sun was at an angle to cast shadows to the left of some of the corners. There is concret slabs on the far left (if your head is still turned they are on the top ;) We had to pick four different  color schemes and repeat the picture. I was very pleased with it.
I sent it to my sister for a Christmas present!

Today was my first Monday at school. I worked most of the day and had my 3 dimensional design class then worked for 30 more minutes. I like my job because it is super easy and so far my classes are going great! Excited for the rest of the week :)

Enjoy!

My Beautiful Sister

I just want to write a quick post about my sister.
She is about four years older than me and when we were younger we never got along.
After she moved to Utah for school we started talking a bit more and now we talk all the time.
She is very smart. I go to her with just about anything and she is always willing to help and talk me through things.
I don't know what I would do without her advice and guidance.
I'm very proud of her for being so dedicated to working out and eating the right foods to lose weight and gain confidence.
She is an amazing mother and wife and has a beautiful family that she loves very much.
I'm proud of you, Monique.

Love you.

30 for 30

So I have been following this blog called Kendi Everyday and I love it! She has the best outfits and such a great personality!
She does this thing called 30 for 30 where you pick 30 items from your closet (jackets, shoes, pants, skirts, dresses, tops) and that is all you can wear for 30 days. You have to do what she calls "Remixing" and come up with new outfits instead of buying more and more things.
This is perfect for me!!!
I love to shop and I always want more (although the budget lately hasn't allowed for it ;) but now I am going to be challenged to look my best every day while being creative.
I'M SO EXCITED!!!
My sister is also doing it with me. It's kinda funny because she has a small wardrobe and is trying to find ways to wear the clothes she has in new ways while I have a huge closet with way too many clothes and I'm trying to figure out what I really need and what I can get rid of (and give to my sister to help her out!)

It starts February 1.
I'll be posting pictures every day of my outfits.
This should be good
:)

I would love to be here: I have a large obsession for buttons and this place seems perfect!
I think I could be in there for hours :)
Enjoy!

Thankfulness

So I know that Thanksgiving was last month and now everyone is looking forward to Christmas and the end of the school semester but I have recently been thinking about how thankful I should be for everything I have. So in order to help me do that I'm going to do my very best (no promises) to post 5 things every day that I am thankful for.

*My mother who is always there and ready to help me out with anything. She is very kind and I take her for granted.
*My father who loves his daughters a lot and supports them in every way.
*My sister who is always so helpful and full of advice. She's always ready to listen. She is also encouraging me to become a healthier person and helping me find the right way to do that.
*My friend Laura. I have known her for the longest of anyone that I still talk to (other than family) We have been friends for 5 years or so now and she is one of the best people I know. We drift apart but always seem to come back and get close again :)
*My wonderful boyfriend Josh. He is better than any guy I could have imagined. He is so patient and understanding and nonjudgemental and supportive. He lets me be me (bad mood and all) but helps me and encourages me to work on becoming a better person that I am happy with.

That's my list for today. Somehow ended up to be all people. Oh well! :)

In other news...finals will be over on Thursday!! I will be off of school and work for a whole month. I plan to do lots of crafts and after Christmas I'm going to go and spend some time with Josh. After I get back I'm going to try to find a second job to help out with the stressful money side of life :/
Then next semester should be good! Chemistry (the majority of it is online), 3D Design, Piano 1, Costume Design and Production and then I'm doing an independent study with the costume teacher. I'm going to be her assistant and help her with anything she needs help with when it comes to the spring play!
I'm greatly looking forward to this next semester and hope it all goes well :)

Enjoy!

Me and Josh

A friend performed at the Skinny Improv this summer a few times for open mic night. He's very funny by the way.
This picture was taken when a bunch of us got to go and watch him.
I like it a lot. :)
